Kapha Dosha
Kapha is comprised of Water and Earth and is the energy of construction and lubrication. It is responsible for keeping joints lubricated and providing a foundation for our body. It is the heaviest of the Doshas and its qualities include moist, cold, heavy, dull, soft, sticky and static.
Kapha types tend to have a broad build with a slower metabolism. It may be hard for them to lose weight. They sleep deeply and fall asleep easily. Kapha types are quiet and not very talkative. They tend to think of the past whereas Vata is always thinking ahead. Kaphas are calm, sentimental and passive. They are also loving and patient. Kapha types may be slow moving, but they have good endurance. They have slow steady digestion and can skip meals easily. Generally they are neither hot nor cold and tolerate warm and cold temperatures. When imbalanced they may become depressed, stubborn and complacent.
Kapha types have soft, pale, smooth skin and are cool to the touch. Due to the moist sticky nature of Kapha, their skin is can become too greasy and suffer breakouts. Their hair is usually thick, full, lustrous and maybe wavy. Lighter moisturizers and regular exfoliation with a gentle scrub are beneficial.
Kapha types should avoid heavy foods, too much fat and dairy. They should eat lightly and can benefit from occasional fasting. Kaphas should consume mostly cooked foods to help digestion and avoid snacking.
Kaphas benefit from varying their routine staying active. They should avoid oversleeping and try to wake early. Since Kapha is wet and cool, Kapha types should protect themselves from the damp and cold.
