Pitta Dosha
Pitta is comprised of Fire and Water and is the energy of transformation and conversion. It digests the food we consume and turns it into the nutrients we absorb. Pitta is the only hot Dosha and its qualities include oily, sharp, hot, light, moving and liquid.
Pitta types tend to be medium build with a strong metabolism. They sleep soundly and have vivid dreams. Pitta types are practical, logical, clear headed and assertive. They are focused, intelligent and may be impatient. They speak clearly and concisely. Pitta types have good stamina and push themselves. They are often very competitive. They have a strong appetite and become irritable when overly hungry. Due to the fiery nature of Pitta, Pitta types tend to be warm to the touch and and overheat and sweat easily. When imbalanced, Pittas tend to become angry, irritable, aggressive and jealous.
Pitta types are prone to freckles and moles and are more sensitive to sunlight than other Doshas. Their skin is often sensitive and Pittas are more prone to skin disorders such as breakouts, rashes, hives and eczema. Their hair is soft, oily and often blonde or red and prone to early graying.
Due to its sensitivity and heat, Pitta skin needs cooling and nurturing care. Coconut oil and olive oil are excellent for Pitta skin.
Pitta types should avoid hot, spicy foods and too much meat. They are able to handle raw foods and a vegetarian diet very well. They should avoid nightshades (such as tomatoes, eggplant and peppers) and heating foods such as raw onion and radish. Generally they have strong digestion and handle most other foods well.
Pittas should stay cool and avoid overheating. They should not work late at night and should ensure time for rest and fun. Pitta types should stay protected from the sun and bright lights and avoid exercising during the hottest part of the day. They should avoid conflict and argument.
